Finding Hotels In Tenerife

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands - governed by Spain and offering a fantastic climate. It's become a firm favourite with many people looking for both summer and winter sun trips.

There are a number of budget airlines flying direct to Tenerife from the UK, opening up many possibilities in terms of finding cheaper holiday deals. So is it possible to find some low prices on Tenerife hotels in order to get a really great holiday at a bargain price?

As you might expect, the island has a large number of hotels. The quality of the accommodation does vary, however, so how should you go about finding those that are right for your holiday?

Making use of independent online reviews can be a great way to do this. You'll soon be able to spot those hotels that don't appear to offer great value for money.

With a quick scan of some popular review sites you can also soon identify where the real bargains are to be found. For instance, the Grand Hotel Anthelia tends to score highly, although it is a 5 star hotel, so maybe this is to be expected.

How about some of those hotels that have lower official ratings and yet still score highly with visitors? These are the real gems. The Palia Don Pedro on the southern part of the island is a great example. Officially only a 2 star hotel, it offers more than many expect.

Before choosing somewhere to stay in Tenerife it's always worth checking what previous customers have had to say about the accommodation.

Some great hotel deals are available from a wide range of online travel agents, including Alpha Rooms.

Enjoy Your Stay In The Tropical Islands

Summer is just a few months from now. However, if you cannot wait to feel the summer heat then you can book a flight to various tropical resorts around the world where the heat and fun is all-year round. There are countless places you can go to where you can enjoy warm waters, fine sand, gushing waves, fresh breeze, festivals, colorful blossoms, sumptuous delicacies, and good-natured people.

Lucky are these places where the heat stays. The tropics enjoy continuous lush growth of flora and fauna. There is no frost season, of course. The perennial warm humid climate allows the flourishing of a diverse variety of vegetation and wildlife which you will not see in the rest of the world. The tropics also house a huge number of tourist destinations, generating income and fostering economic growth. It is in the tropics where you find the most popular vacation and holiday spots. These places include the Bahamas, Bermuda, Caribbean, Cayman Islands, Hawaii, Indonesia, Jamaica, Mediterranean, Panama, Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Thailand. In the Caribbean, for example, you will find the Barbados. It is a popular island noted for its excellent beach resorts, botanic gardens, and spectacular caves.

Enjoy the delights of the tropical resorts these places can offer. This should be fun. Here are some tips you should keep in mind.

1. Plan ahead.

A well-planned vacation will not let you fail. Travelling to another land requires some tasks to be done. It’s not like you’re going to take a ride on a cab and there you go. Decide on where you’ll go, whom you want to join you, what to bring, food preparations or arrangements, how long you’ll stay there, what your activities would be and your budget.

2. Secure your documents.

You can’t just go to a foreign land and then discover upon getting off the plane that you have left your passport. Bring all your necessary identification documents including your license IDs. Also, take note of contact numbers of hotels and emergency numbers. If necessary, make a checklist of all the things you are bringing and be sure to check them before leaving.

3. Don’t forget your first aid kit.

Bring bandages, ointments, aspirins, and other over-the-counter medications in case you need them. Pack them in one kit and do not mix them with your other things.

4. Bring your toiletries.

Toothpastes, deodorants, shampoos, toothbrushes, soaps, among others are necessary for hygiene. The heat in the tropics favors the growth of infectious microorganisms. You don’t want to acquire some skin infection after a fine holiday. Hence, it is important that you maintain good hygiene.

5. Wear light, comfy clothes.

It doesn’t snow in the tropics. There’s no need for sweaters or thick jackets. Bring thin garments made of cotton. You can wear almost anything light in the beach from thin, sleeveless shirts to bikinis or trunks. Some people go to beach naked. Leave your leather shoes and bring beach walking sandals or tennis shoes. Be sure to bring enough clothes, unless you feel like getting the used, dirty ones laundered.

6. Don’t get burnt.

Tropics are places near the equator. The sun’s rays are almost direct. Avoid getting sunburn. It won’t be fun to be somewhere in the shade soothing the burns. Apply sunscreens. They contain agents that protect your skin from the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun which may cause skin cancer. Wear hats and sunglasses that filter out UV rays. Avoid wearing sunglasses that has no UV filter component as these will only dilate your pupils allowing more ultraviolet light to enter your eyes.

7. Be aware of your destination.

You may read a brochure about the resort you’re heading to or you can search the internet for details about the place you have a booked your vacation. This allows you to note of what to expect and to have an overview of the location unless, of course, you fancy surprises. You can also bring a map if you wish.

8. Observe environmental awareness.

It’s rude to go to a place that’s so clean and orderly and then finally leave it with whole lot of mess. Dispose your garbage properly.

9. Be nice to people.

This is basic. You ought to be friendly with the staff of the hotel or the resort you are staying at. Be polite and smile.

10. Have fun.

Soak yourself to the environment. Feel the vibes and explore places. Don’t just stay in your room spoiling what has to be pleasurable. Don’t bore yourself. If you do, you might as well pack up and head straight home.

Getting on a vacation is fun but it doesn’t end there. Be a wise vacationer and follow these simple yet helpful tips and you’re surely have a great time!

Weekend Getaway In The Off Season

It may be the dead of winter and you wish to get away from the work and stress of the season. However, it may be just after the holidays and your budget is tight. You would love to go somewhere warm, but can you afford to do so? For those who are looking for a quick weekend away, if you take some time to really plan the event well, chances are good that you can have a very enjoyable weekend without spending a lot of money on the process.

Travel Tips For The Off Season

If you would like a low cost getaway, the best time to travel is during the winter months. In fact, you may be able to save a great deal of money and still do some of your favorite things. Here are some ideas on how to save money.
  1. Discount airline tickets are often available during the winter months. Therefore, you may not have to do much but look for these tickets to be able to fly to a tropic island or to get to your favorite hot spot.
  2. Book at an all inclusive hotel suite. Instead of paying for your airfare, your rental car and hotel save money by booking them together. During the off-season, chances are good you will find a great deal.
  3. Check with local and online travel agents about discount travel options for the season. You may be able to jump on a cruise ship at the last minute. You may be able to find a deeply discounted Florida theme park location with meals included. These deals may not be advertised heavily but they are out there for those who are looking for them.
Often times, you are hoping to get away at the last minute. You can do this and still save money during the off-season when many hotels are looking to fill rooms as much a possible. Keep in mind that there is a risk that you may not be able to get the room you want.

Planning a weekend getaway during the summer months is far more expensive than the fall and the winter months. Invest some time in the planning process and do research online. Some of the online travel agencies can keep prices very low and still give you everything you want for an enjoyable weekend away. You do not have to go far to enjoy these benefits either.

9 Ways To Avoid Swine Flu While Traveling

With the all the media hype about Swine Flu, it’s not unreasonable to think about trying to avoid unnecessary public outings, including air travel. But the FAA and the CDC only warn against flying if you’re already feeling the symptoms of an illness or if you’ve come in contact with someone who’s seriously at risk of contracting the F1N1 flu virus.

Federal officials have just asked that everyone consider common health safety precautions when they’re in public and surrounded by other travelers. Because discount airfare, in particular, often fill up fast, making for crowded planes and airports, you’ll want to follow these basic guidelines for keeping yourself healthy on your flights.

  1. Keep in mind that everything you touch, including your airline tickets, the handles on your bags, and your ID, have the potential to be touched by someone else and vice versa so wash your hands more than often with soap and water, lathering for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Carry hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes (in a small enough container to pass carry-on regulations) with you everywhere. You can essentially wash your hands anytime any place and wipe down any plastic surface you come in contact with ¬ armrests on airplane and airport seats, ticket counters, etc - when you’re armed with these two items.
  3. Avoid using the pillows and blankets on airline flights. Believe it or not, whether you’re flying on cheap flights or premium airlines, the planes don’t have a washing machine or dryer hooked up in the back to sanitize pillows and blankets between flights. Bring your own pillow or blanket as a shield against the seats themselves.
  4. You’ll be hard-pressed to find cheap flights that aren’t crowded with travelers; as a common hygiene practice, make sure to sneeze and cough into your own body, preferably into the bend of your arm. Always carry tissues to avoid spreading any of those germs to other passengers.
  5. As helpful as flight attendants, ticket counter, and baggage claim employees can be and as much as we appreciate what they do, it wouldn’t be unheard of to kindly request to handle your own belongings if possible at this time. Many of the discount airlines don’t charge for checked baggage, but you might want to still consider carrying-on your luggage on these cheap flights to avoid having the ticket counter and baggage handlers germ up your bags.
  6. Airlines have probably already started opening up cheap airline tickets to Mexico and areas of the country that have had Swine Flu outbreaks, but federal officials do warn against traveling to these places and they ask travelers to be particularly cautious around friends and family who may have recently visited those parts of the world.
  7. Remember that you’re usually contagious one week prior to exhibiting symptoms of the flu, so if you think you may have come in contact with someone who could be carrying the flu this might be one of the few reasons to postpone your airline tickets for another time.
  8. You can never be too cautious, so wearing a mask in public to protect yourself from other traveler’s germs and to keep yours from spreading may be a good idea.
  9. Remember that just once you’ve stepped off the plane that doesn’t mean you’re out of harms way. If you’re going to be staying in a hotel room and you have space in your suitcase, you might want to pack your own sheet and pillow case.

Renting A Car? Get Helpful Car Rental Advice And Tips

Before you next car rental, there are a few things that you should know. First it is recommended to compare at least two or more car rental companies before making your final reservations. This is a great way to ensure you are getting the right price. Another great way to reduce the overall cost would be to use a coupon code. There are plenty of coupons on the internet for companies like Avis Rent A Car, Hertz Car Rentals and more.

Daily rate types:

Car rental rates vary between the many different companies. It all depends on the rental companies current daily rate offerings. The daily rates that are usually found include: being charged per mile, getting a limited number of free miles per day or a daily rate with unlimited mileage.

Keep in mind that sometimes a cheaper upfront rate will cost more in the long run, if you plan on driving heavily. So choose wisely, as getting the appropriate rate type can be an important factor in your overall cost.

Car categories:

Finding the right car can be confusing, just make note of the amount of people that will be riding in the car as well as the total amount of luggage. Once you have these figures you can easily find what you need.

Car rentals are most often described in the following categories:
  1. "Economy", this is the most basic and least expensive model. Seating 4 people and holding 1 large and 1 small suitcase.
  2. "Compact", is slightly costlier than an "Economy" car and will offer only a minor upgrade in car type. Still it will seat 4 people as well as hold 1 large and 1 small luggage.
  3. "Intermediate", these cars are usually priced right in-between the lowest to most expensive and can seat 5 people as well as 1 large and 2 small luggage.
  4. "Standard", is slightly costlier than an "Intermediate" and will offer only a minor upgrade in car type. Still it will seat 5 people as well as hold 1 large and 2 small luggage.
  5. "Full Size", they are the most expensive of the bunch. This car type can seat 5 people comfortably and has enough trunk space to hold 2 large and 2 smaller luggages.
Again, always be sure to check for special promotions or coupon codes which are readily available online to save even more. Sometimes you can even ask the rental car company in advance for special rates, they are often available.

Additional airport charge?

Because car rental companies have to pay airports additional fees, they usually transfer this cost over to the customer. So when getting a quote, ask about this and see whether it is already included or not.

Don't forget the tax:

Remember when getting a quotation, Taxes are not normally included. As this can make your total cost go up a lot it is important to check if it was already included in your original quotation.

What about insurance?

This is not as complicated as you might think. Most car insurance companies (from your personal vehicle) will automatically insure the rental car (make sure to check with them first). However, if your personal car insurance company does not, or if you do not have personal car insurance then buying the insurance coverage is a good idea.

Overview:

When making your reservation, follow these simple and easy tips and you can be one of the many to take advantage of the best rates offered by so many car rental companies today. So to do a quick rundown:

  1. Compare prices and use coupon codes that are readily available on the web.
  2. Check the daily rate types and pick the one that best suits your needs.
  3. Pick the least expensive car category that your feel comfortable with.
  4. Don?t be shy, and ask when it comes to those other hidden charges and taxes.
  5. Determine if you need to purchase insurance.
  6. Make the reservation.

Boating Tips: Stay Safe On The Water With These Tips

If you are new to boating or even if you grew up on the water you should always use caution and learn some basic tips for boating safety. The safer you make boating the better time you and the whole family will have.

Make sure you have one life vest per person on the boat and one throwable floatation device and all must be coast guard approved. If the boat is going down do you have a life vest close by for you and everyone on the boat? If not you are already breaking the law in some waters and playing a very stupid and unsafe game. Invest in Coast Guard approved life vests.

Always fill out a float plan about your boat trip before leaving the dock and leave a copy with someone who will not be going on the trip with you. You can get a float plan template from the Coast Guard website or make up one of your own. A float plan details the time you are setting sail, where you are going, who is on the boat, the name of the boat and other information the Coast Guard will need in the event they need to find you. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill one out but could mean the world of a difference.

You may not be planning on staying out until it is dark, but you never know what could happen. Check all the lights on your boat to make sure they are working properly. You do not want to get caught out in the dark with no lights. It is unsafe, stupid and you would be breaking the law.

Pack extra maps, flares, a whistle, first aid kit, and an extra hand held radio or CB. In the event of an emergency you want to make sure you have extra supplies that could mean the difference in a making a bad situation better or worse. Maps in case you go down the wrong river, a whistle in case your boat’s horn is not working properly, first aid kit for injuries, and the extra radio in case the one your boat has stops working. Always abide by murphy’s law, and that is anything that can go wrong, will.

Monitor the weather for the day you will be out on the water. If they are calling for a good chance of rain of severe weather conditions do not risk it. Stay off the water that day. If it turns out to be a nice day, then oh well, at least you are safe. Tomorrow will always be another opportunity to enjoy the water.

Boating is meant to be an enjoyable experience and fool of fun for the friends and family. When you do not exercise caution it could turn into a deadly disaster. Whenever in doubt about a situation always be conservative and use common sense. If rough water conditions make you nervous or unsure about yourself or your abilities then it is best to stay off the water that day. Take the necessary steps to not endanger yourself or those that are on your watercraft.

How To Trailer A Boat

Unless you live in a lakeside home, towing your boat to the water is the first step in a fun-filled day in the sun. Trailering a boat requires close attention to the safety requirements of your vehicle and trailer. Taking shortcuts by avoiding what seems like a minor safety precaution could end in costly damage. Get to the water safe and sound by following these basic safety tips.

For starters, check the towing capacity of your vehicle by consulting the owner's manual or by contacting the manufacturer. Never assume your vehicle can pull the weight of your boat and trailer without checking the manufacturer's rated towing capacity. Also note that the capacity of your vehicle depends on a combination of factors, not just the size of the engine. Total up the combined weight of your boat and trailer to find the total towing load, and don't forget to factor in the weight of the motor, fuel, and equipment that you keep in your boat.

In order to hook up your boat properly, the coupler and ball hitch must be the same size. Don't try to mix and match sizes. If the ball hitch is too small, the coupler could bounce loose on the road. After you secure the hitch, cross the safety chains underneath the trailer tongue and attach them to the hitch receiver. If the coupler fails, the chains will prevent the trailer from dragging on the ground or separating from the tow vehicle. Make sure your boat is securely tied down. Secure the bow to the trailer with a ratchet strap or chain. Never depend on the winch line alone to secure the bow.

A thorough safety check before taking off can prevent a lot of hassle in the long run. An easy way to prevent one of the most common causes of roadside emergencies is proper tire care. Low tire pressure can cause overheating or result in a blowout. After checking the pressure, examine the sidewalls and tread for cracks and wear. Check the spare on your trailer as well. If you neglect the spare, it won't do you any good when you're in a pinch and need it. Use a spare tire cover to protect it from the elements and keep it in good condition.

Ask another person to help you check the lights on your tow vehicle and trailer, including brake lights, turn signals, and running lights. Double-check the coupler and safety chains before towing. The trailer tongue should be parallel to the ground on a flat surface. If it slopes up or down, adjust the hitch or redistribute the load. The weight of the boat should be distributed evenly from front to rear and side to side. An uneven load could cause the trailer to bounce or sway as you drive down the road.

For added protection, use a trailerable boat cover and boat motor cover to keep out the elements and prevent your equipment from flying out on the road. With these safety tips in mind, you can trailer your boat with confidence and focus on having a fun, relaxing time on the water instead of worrying about breaking down on the side of the road.

How To Balance Your Whitewater Kayak

If you’re someone who is considering becoming a whitewater kayaker then knowing how to balance a kayak is a very key to know. Balancing your kayak is a learned skill, if you want to get better at it here are some simple principles that you definitely have to understand. The two terms you need to know is Balancing and Leaning. You must understand the difference between them and how to properly do them. As I said before these are learned skills so take your time because precaution more times than not leads to safety; your safety!

When you go to balance a kayak there are two areas of your body that you should pay close attention to, and they are the torso muscles and the stomach area. When you do this you are making sure the kayak can function properly in the river as it comes up against the current. So, basically the kayak goes through the current with less resistance as compared to not having balanced the kayak at all. While out there on the river you are trying to avoid two things, and those spills, and flips. They happen when the kayaker tense up, and fight the current when you should relax your stomach and torso muscles to keep the kayak balanced.

Now on to leaning, you use leaning to ensure that the kayak does not flip. There are several causes for the flips, as we said earlier not having the proper balance, also the rapids, waves, and holes. The forces of the river have to be counteracted by an opposing force, and that is where “leaning” comes into play. This again, is a learned skill that is only obtained by practice, but once you master it you have thus moved on from being a beginner.

So the question that may come to is, how exactly do I “lean” my kayak? Well you have ways that are taught to beginners, which is the obvious ones, such as leaning side to side and using your hip to lift the kayak slightly. There is a more difficult lean to learn and that is the J Lean, trying to explain it here may not be sufficient so it is best to get a experienced kayaker and perhaps a certified trainer. However I will cover the general idea about J Leaning.

The J Lean’s general is to keep head and torso as straight as possible, and lift the kayak with your hip and simultaneously leaning toward the kayak. That is the best way to do one. Also remember not to use your paddle to balance. As I said earlier get a trainer or an experienced kayaker to show you how to properly do this.
